The Connecticut Sun is inviting Connecticut students in grades 4-8 to participate in the Second Annual Women in Sports Essay Contest, sanctioned by the Connecticut Association of Schools, in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). All Connecticut students that are interested in participating in the project may submit a one-page essay answering the question: Who is your favorite female athlete and why? Connecticut Sun point guard Lindsay Whalen braved the chilly temperatures Friday night in Minneapolis, returning home to celebrate the University of Minnesota’s 2009 Homecoming. Whalen was one of six grand marshals in the parade, which ended with fireworks and a pep fest at the new TCF Bank Stadium. Get the details.

The USA Basketball Women's National Team opened its six-day training camp on September 30th in Washington, D.C. The 2009 USA National Team's fall training camp roster lists 19 athletes, including six Olympic gold medalists and five members of the 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team, will be attending the training camp.

Blaze, the Connecticut Sun mascot, was on hand Monday as Pitney Bowes hosted a special Reading Time-Out to celebrate its achievement of One Million Miles read as part of the WNBA's Fast Break To Reading program.

Because of an injury to her right eye, Connecticut Sun point guard Lindsay Whalen will be forced to miss the USA Basketball Women’s National Team training camp, scheduled to run from Sept. 30th to Oct. 5th at American University in Washington, D.C. Get more info.

During the victory over the New York Liberty on September 4, first-year Sun guard Tan White scored her 1,500th career point. Chante Black and Tamika Whitmore of Connecticut Sun, Connecticut’s own WNBA basketball team, joined nearly 75 children and adults during Connecticut Food Bank’s Summer Suppers on Monday, Aug. 24 in New Haven.

An established star in her native Latvia, the 25-year-old guard has begun to display the shooting, passing and ball-handling skills that have impressed so many European fans.
